Through TAFE Admissions
Most full-time courses at Swan TAFE will require you to apply for admission through the TAFEWA Admissions Centre before you enrol.
The application process is quite detailed, so it is important that you check with the Career Development Centre, or call Swan TAFE to make sure you follow the right steps to maximise you chances of successfully getting an offer of place.
Application Procedure
Step 1.
Contact a Swan TAFE Information Officer and find out when the next qualification starts and the closing date for applications. Request that an application form be posted to you when it is available if you intend to lodge a written application.
Step 2.
Start preparing for your TAFE application early. Leaving it to the last minute can disadvantage you.
The TAFE Admissions application form requires details of academic achievement, employment/work experience /voluntary activities, Australian citizenship or permanent residency status, and other matters.
When you submit your application you must provide written evidence to support all claims that you make. For your application to be complete, you must include photocopies of:
- All academic records that you have received since Year 9
- Any graduation certificates (including TAFE awards) that you have received
- Any other results that you want taken into account
- A Statement of Equivalence if your qualifications are from overseas
- Proof of having met the TAFE literacy requirements if you have overseas qualifications
- Proof of Australian (or New Zealand) citizenship or proof of Australian permanent residency status or have one of the following visa sub-classes: 309, 310, 820, 826 if you were not born in Australia. (NOTE: Temporary residents of Australia must apply through Education and Training International )
- Proof of any work experience, or employment that you have had. A Statement of Service from the place where you work or have worked is preferred, but a reference or Group Certificate of Earnings is acceptable also
Please contact Swan TAFE on (08) 9267 7500 if you require further information about these requirements.
Step 3.
When you receive the application form, answer the questions in neat handwriting. If you are to be successful with your application TAFE Admissions has to be able to read your details.
Step 4.
Take your completed application to any Swan TAFE campus. You can submit the application at the same time and pay the application fee (if applicable).
Your application will be forwarded to TAFE Admissions for assessment. Places in TAFE qualifications are allocated on the basis of a score calculated from Academic Merit and Work Experience. Qualifications are filled from the highest score down until all places are taken.
Alternatively, you may prefer to apply online.
If your application is successful you will receive a letter from TAFE Admissions offering a place in the qualification and enclosing information on how to accept the offer of place.

There are a couple of ways to apply for entry into full-time qualifications.
(1) Online
The safest and quickest way is to go online at www.tafe.wa.edu.au. The online application process is simple and user friendly. Not only do you get access to a step by step guide on how to fill out your online application, every question has a hint! button that you can click on for help in understanding the question that you are being asked to answer.
You can submit your application and pay your application fee (if applicable) online.
When you start an online application for the first time you will be asked to create a login account. This allows you to save your application, and return to it later to make changes or to add more information BEFORE you submit your application. Once you have submitted your application online you cannot make any changes.
IMPORTANT: If you apply online, please do not submit a hardcopy application form or another online application form. If you need to make changes to your application, call the TAFEWA Admissions Centre on (08) 9224 6560.
Once you complete your application form you will be able to print a check list that will outline the documentation that you will need to submit to TAFEWA Admissions. You will then have seven days to submit the required documentation. You can fax the documentation to TAFEWA Admissions on (08) 9224 6548 or post it to:
TAFEWA Admissions Centre
P.O. Box 7810
Cloisters Square, Perth, 6850
or visit Level 2, 166 Murray Street Mall, Perth (above Woolworths)
You can also e-mail the documentation if you wish. For more information on this option please call TAFEWA Admissions on (08) 9224 6560.
Year 12 students will be able to access a personalised online application form from the beginning of August each year.
(2) Paper applications
To apply by paper, complete an Application Form which is available at any TAFEWA college, the Career Development Centre or in the TAFEWA Handbook.
Forms will be available at the beginning of August for semester one applications, and at the beginning of May for semester two applications.
Application Forms and supporting documents (copies of school reports, other qualifications and evidence of work experience) can be lodged at any TAFEWA campus or mailed to the TAFE Admissions Service address on the back of the Application Form.
We recommend that you lodge the form at Swan TAFE, so that your application can be checked by a staff member to ensure it's correct. It is very important that you fill out your application form correctly so that you maximise the chance of receiving an offer of a place in the qualification of your choice.
Alternatively, you can post your application form with any fees (if applicable) to:
TAFEWA Admissions Centre
PO Box 7810, Cloisters Square
Perth WA 6850
Faxed or e-mailed applications will not be accepted.
How do I know my application has been received?
You will receive a letter confirming your application has been received by TAFEWA Admissions. However, it is not an offer of a place. If you do not receive this letter within two weeks of submitting your application, telephone TAFEWA Admissions on (08) 9224 6560.

Selection Criteria are used to rank eligible applicants competing for entry into a qualification where there are more applicants for the qualification and location than there are places available.
Applicants are scored against the selection criteria for each qualification applied, where it is identified that selection criteria must be addressed. This method of selection provides an equitable way of determining which applicants will be offered a place.
Not all qualifications require applicants to address the selection criteria. You will only need to address selection criteria with qualifications displaying the following heading:
“When applying for this qualification you are required to address entry requirements and selection criteria.”
For more information about Selection Criteria, please refer to the TAFEWA website, or contact Swan TAFE on 9267 7500.
